The Grady's Favorite Movies: not in any particular order and definitely not a complete listing...

GENRE NAME (year) Notes
crime, action, comedy The Boondock Saints (1999)
Some great action, some interesting twists, good plot and Willem Dafoe like you've never seen him before!
musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
This is a cult classic for a good reason. I only wish Tim Curry and Richard O'Brien would get some more roles that are more on the level of their abilities.
animation, comedy, musical - not appropriate for children South Park - Bigger, Longer and Uncut (1999)
A whole lot of message amongst some really crude language and great musical scores.
family, comedy Baby's Day Out (1994)
Our family loves this one - good story, entertaining although sometime predictable, and full of action - kind of a Home Alone baby-style.
action, drama Gladiator (2000)
Great story, special effects, fight scenes - just enough of everything.
crime, drama Traffic (2000)
The "war on drugs" from some different viewpoints. Riveting. My wife even liked it.
action, adventure, comedy, sci fi Galaxy Quest (1999)
If you're familiar with Star Trek, Alien and the space genre, you should get all the "in" jokes. Ideal, too, to have Sigourney Weaver in the cast.
crime, drama, mystery, thriller L.A. Confidential (1997)
Great combination of everything with an excellent cast.
thriller, drama The Insider (1999)
Excellent film which really shows the versatility of Russell Crowe - a phenominal actor.
horror, thriller Jaws (1975)
I can watch this over and over. A great balance of effects and acting. I'll always remember Robert Shaw in this role.
crime, thriller, action, comedy Snatch (2000)
Twists, turns, some pretty rotten characters - fine acting and plot development.
horror, sci fi, thriller Alien (1979)
Classic sci fi. Finally an actual strong female lead.
horror, sci fi, thriller Aliens (1986)
Sigourney Weaver just keeps getting better...
horror, sci fi, thriller Alien Resurrection (1997)
and better. I didn't expect too much knowing how Hollywood takes and winner and then keeps beating it into the ground with sequel after sequel.
action, adventure, romance Cutthroat Island (1995)
action, thriller Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)
drama The Green Mile (1999)
Great story, excellent execution (pardon the pun;-)
comedy Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
Mike Myers is wonderful spoofing the spy genre and introducing some unforgettable characters.
comedy Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
Funny from start to finish.
animation, fantasy, family, comedy Shrek (2001)
Good for the whole family. Just make sure you don't have some noisy kid sitting in back of you in the theatre.
fantasy, action, comedy, crime The Mask (1994)
Fun movie with cartoonish chaos.
horror House on Hauntedf Hill (1958)
This is the original which first scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid. Took a while to get over it, even was taken to meet with the 7th son of a 7th son.
horror, mystery The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)
Vincent Price is classic in this tale of murder & revenge assisted by the ever so stylish Vulnavia.
comedy, drama That Thing You Do (1996)
Great work Tommy!
action, comedy Who Am I? (1996)
Jackie Chan is a favorite in our family. Love the fight scenes, and the overall feel of the film is more sophisticated than lot of his films generally are.
